The legend of the Hawiian shirt starts with it not even being called a Hawiian shirt ironically. Originally called the Aloha shirt and created in the 1930’s in Waikki the first versions were created out of leftover kimono cloth. The local newspaper caught onto the fad and coined the term Aloha shirt. Ellery Chun the creator of the shirts immediately trademarked the name and ran advertisements for them in 1935.

Memories of favorite places
We are off on a hunt from time to time. Usually not to find anything in particular, but just to find that “one thing” for all of us or for each of us that will remind us of the vacation we just had, or place we just visited. It may be in a beach shop, it might be something we found on the beach itself. The trick is to keep an open mind and get creative. depending on the trip or area one word, symbol, landmark, or item can sum up a whole vacation.

With summer here and four kids at home it is always a good time to find something to keep them occupied and have some fun as a family while living our long weekend life. If we want to be able to relax and enjoy our time together activity is imperative for the kids so they are not “bored”.
“Staycations”…are they worth it?
“Staycations”, are they worth it or not? First let’s define a “staycation” as it is a relatively new term being thrown around because of the economy. A “staycation” is a vacation of sorts only you find new things to do and see in the area around your hometown. It could be an overnight trip or a one tank trip but for the most part a “staycation” is exactly how it sounds.
To Cruise or Not Cruise
To cruise or not to cruise that is the question. With so many choices and cruise lines out there the choices are almost endless…..or are they? Cruising has been getting a bad rap lately with news stories of sinking boats, virus outbreaks, passengers coming up missing, staff stealing mobile phones and more. So why would someone WANT to go on a cruise? The answer is simple, it allows you to see a number of ports and places for a cheaper price often than if you visited each place individually. Not only that but it is mostly an all inclusive vacation with meals and most activities included.

Fantasy Fun in Key West – It’ll be here before you know it
We will start with my disclaimer, I do not attend that Week nor do I plan to as it’s just not my thing. But I do recognize that some of you long weekend lifers enjoy this craziness in Key West. So for you and for those of you who are looking at the screen like my dog looks at me when I make a funny noise, here are all the juicy facts.
Shoes….Or sandals….maybe both?
Every now and again I come across a product that I have to mention here and this is one of those times. A little history first though of how I came to buying this particular product. In the past I was not traditionally a fan of flip flops. With no arch support and an annoying little plastic thing cutting between your toes it was more than I could handle. So I wore shoes everywhere. In a quest to find lighter and cooler shoes, I was always trying different brands and types. I then found a brand offlip flops I loved through trial and error. Olukai’s were breakthrough for me. With arch support, a comfy foot bed and a ribbon of cloth between my toes I could finally wear flip flops comfortably. What could be better? But there are situations that are not conducive to wearing flip flops. Like chasing the kids and trying out their longboards. Getting off of or stopping swings on swing sets is difficult in flip flops too…..so it was back to wearing hot heavy sneakers on those occasions. Was there a product that was the best of both worlds?
Parrot Head Legend and lore
There is a legend in Paradise that most claim is true, but only the participants know for sure. It is the kind of legend past down through generations and that songs are written about. It involves a small Island, a couple of lost sailors and a restaurant on that small island. But like any legend it depends on where you read it or who you hear it from as to what the true story is.
