Memories of favorite places
We are off on a hunt from time to time. Usually not to find anything in particular, but just to find that “one thing” for all of us or for each of us that will remind us of the vacation we just had, or place we just visited. It may be in a beach shop, it might be something we found on the beach itself. The trick is to keep an open mind and get creative. depending on the trip or area one word, symbol, landmark, or item can sum up a whole vacation.
We have gone through that recently with just about every trip we have taken. Because we favor tropical vacations our favorite things tend to be tropical….but not always. Sometimes it’s just something to sum up our frame of mind. For instance when my wife and I finally got to go on a mini honeymoon I felt guilty because business has been slow. I felt guilty about spending the money on the vacation when we could not see much coming in on the horizon. So in the gift shop of the hotel we were staying at were those little voodoo dolls that look like keychains. There was one for luck and one for fortune. That summed up that leg of the trip for me. For my wife it was something as simple as a cute watch and necklace with a key and a heart on it……again not tropical but will remind us of the vacation.
If you are a fan of tropical items like we are you can find things to remind you of your trip every where. On some beaches you can find sea shells, seal life (sand dollars, urchins, etc), a piece of driftwood sometimes is nice on an end table or a favorite picture of a particular spot. Any of these can invoke memories of sun, sand and relaxing times on the beach.
Also the clothing you choose can help to relax and whisk you away back to the island that you wore that shirt, dress or flip flops to. Why save those only for trips (unless it is snowing outside and you’re thinking flip flops)? Break out the shirts and dresses and think back to the place you wore them last.
As always it’s about the memories and experience. We are happy to help you here at lLong Weekend Life with any type of recommendation from clothing to finding souvenirs, places to visit or just how to get away from it all without really leaving. Living the tropical life is our passion whether big or little budget at the time, we have been there (or at least wanted to be).
