Before Your Own Spring Breaks
While teens and early 20 somethings enjoy their Spring Break many of us are still stuck back at the office either with no vacation time or no cash in this down economy to take a vacation. So what do you do when times like this strike? Where can you go for a mini break or vacation while on a budget or stuck with no time to take a vacation? Here are a few of our favorite tips to help you take a mini break and get away (at least in your mind) from it all.
FIrst change things up – If you are not already doing this, simple things like tropical music, Kona coffee, tropical drinks with umbrellas can always help. Tropical movies like Joe vs. The Volcano, Blue Crush, 50 First Dates, Tropic Thunder, into the blue, or even National Lampoon’s Beach Party can help you escape for a couple of hours. Even tropical candles from Bath and Body Works or Tommy Bahama can help change the environment for you. Immerse your senses in everything tropical. Bake some ham and pineapple or make Spam, hash and eggs for breakfast.
Second go all out – try inviting friends over for a Parrot Head, Beach, or Tiki party. These kind of party supplies are always available online at places like Oriental Traders or other party supply places. If each person brings something different you will be surprised how easy it is to transform a space into a tropical party inside or out. Also see how many can bring a different tropical dish or drink mix to add to the menu. you can get a inexpensive alarm clock with wave noises built it so you have the sound of waves crashing in the background.
Last but not least, Relax – get comfortable if even for a couple of days. Turn the heat up a little, or move your furniture to a different room and break out the beach chairs and towels and create the environment you wish to be in. It doesn’t take a lot to set the mood. Even a change of wall color, if you spend your break paining the kitchen a Margarita green color or your living room a tropical yellow will do wonders to change your mood in the short and long term.
So keep it simple, but have fun and you too can come back from the break weeks as refreshed as the others in your office who were lucky enough to make it to the beach. You too can continue making it a long weekend life every day of the week.
